Sprints: closing with a result that does not disappear

A sprint starts with one button and ends with a dialog: you see the result and choose where the unfinished work goes. The summary is recorded for good and stays in the history.

Why

After a sprint closes, its report often “drifts”: tasks are edited and moved, and it is no longer clear what was planned. Now the result is captured at the moment of closing and never changes again.

How it works

  1. Three states

Planned, active, closed. A closed sprint cannot be edited, and a project can have only one active sprint at a time.

  2. Start

At least one task is required. The start is the moment you press the button, the duration is saved, and the end must be in the future.

  3. An active sprint is completed, not deleted

A planned sprint can be deleted: its tasks return to the backlog, and the confirmation says how many.

  4. The completion dialog only shows

Done, not done, cancelled, archived. The unfinished work goes to the backlog, to an existing sprint or to a new one (which does not start by itself). You can rate whether the goal was met and add a note.

  5. The result is recorded with the closing

The summary is written first, then the unfinished work is moved. The report shows what was planned at the start, added, removed, completed, carried over and cancelled.

  6. Honest points

Cancelled tasks are not counted as done; a task that is done and then archived stays done.

  7. Auto-completion

For a sprint with an end date you can turn on automatic closing.

Good to know

  • For old sprints closed before summaries existed we show “no data”, not zeros.
